History of Victoria Wholesale Centre

Victoria Wholesale Centre (VWC) engaged mainly in the sale of groceries and dried provisions. However, we also deal in disposable plastic products, fabric, hardware and household items.

The origin of VWC was developed by the Housing Development Board with a temporary occupation license in 1997 to house the Ellenborough Market tenants affected by the Relocation Programme, which could date back to 1891 when vendors of dried seafood products gathered together in a marketplace in Tew Chew Street (now the site of Merchant Court Swissotel) to do their businesses. Today, VWC has been moved from Victoria Street temporary lease site to the eight-storey centre in Kallang Avenue.

Most of the businesses in VWC are run as traditional-styled businesses. Many of them are family-owned and spans more than one generation.
